Soundform is an interactive installation which explores a synthesthetic relationship between iconic forms and synthetic sounds. 32 micro-sculptures are linked to a set of synthetic instruments representing a range of sounds from noise to harmony, rhythm to random frequencies. These forms are active agents in a sound environment where musical compositions are mapped in electronic space. Visitors to the installation may navigate the soundspace, manipulate the soundforms, and play the system.
The basis of this work is a generative sound system, where the soundforms may reproduce with one another, producing hybrid forms of themselves. The result is a constantly shifting soundscape, dependent on the input of visitors to the work and the processes of "sound breeding". The soundforms can be viewed as a set of embyonic elements for an abstract electronic world, or as sketches towards a audiovisual language for virtual space.
1. The soundforms move silently about their space at random. You may watch and listen, or grab the mouse and interact with them.

2. At any time, you may pick one up and place in the centre of the space and it will begin to play its sound. Up to five soundforms can be placed in the centre at one time.

3. You may also pick up the soundforms and place them on one another, triggering them to reproduce.

4. When the new soundform has been created it will take a few moments to mature - wait until it is fully grown before you try to pick it up. By combining and recombining the soundforms that are in the space you can create a unique set of sounds.

5. There are 32 forms, each with their own instrument sound.
